It's not. It's just different. WC3 was telling a story, WoW is not really telling a story. In WC3, the whole Warcraft lore was a story that was being told, that changed with WoW, now the Warcraft lore is not really a story but rather a universe that people get to explore. I prefer the latter and so the WoW version of Warcraft is much more ... Warcraft lore is very vast and as a result of that, very disconnected in it's medium. The vast majority of important events happen in books and RTS. While pretty big, the MMO (in my personal opinon) brings the least lore out of all mediums. If you are completely new to the lore, I'd suggest playing Warcraft RTS first and foremost.
