The side plate went right in. I think it took me 20 minutes to outline the plate and cut the mortice. Thinning reduces strength relative to the square of the thickness. 3/4 times 3/4 = 9/16. 4/4 times 4/4 =16/16 or one (unchanged). 16/16 minus 9/16 = 7/16 loss or 43% loss.The Hawken and Renegade are advertised as being .500 bore with .006" grooves. This gives you a total space of .512" that you need to work off of. Subtract the .490 ball and this means you need to make up .022" of space. Divide that in half and you find that you need a minimum of .011" patching for a loose fit.The Lancaster is a .45 caliber flintlock and is listed for $550. The Tennessee is .50 caliber percussion but the rifle comes with a new L&R Flintlock and would just need a vent hole amd me to convert it. When I got to the range I wiped the bore, poured 60 grains of Pyrodex RS down the hole and started the pre lubed bullet. It got about 12 inches down the bore and stopped.Obsidian is a volcanic glass. It tends to shatter like glass. While flint, agate, etc are 7 on Moh's hardness scale, obsidian is only 5. BTW stainless steel is also around 5 on the same scale. The bolster on the breech plug is very small and it appears to have a flange around it that caps the end of the barrel. The internal plug also has an end that seems to be slanted ...1/4" is equal to 6.350 mm. 6.5mm is equal to .2559" but there is no standard 6.5 mm thread. 6.0 mm is equal to .236 inches so it would be undersize in a 1/4-28 hole.
